BISCHOFF/WEISS is pleased to present p. 18, the first solo exhibition by Flore Nové-Josserand.
Flore Nové-Josserand develops a practice of painting, sculpture, installations, video, writing and events, concerned with notions of pictorial composition, relationship to space and forms of representation.
Most of Flore Nové-Josserand’s production consists of perceptual objects: objects intended to be experienced in person. They can be considered paintings, because they are built up in layers and present preferential points of view, because the composition(s) articulate themselves visually according to the balance of masses of colour. But they are not images. They are decorative objects that play upon illusions of depth. And they are kinesthetic objects: their hallucinatory quality is an artifice used to lure the viewer into circulation around the object, so it can be observed and analysed from different angles. Height, position, viewing distance and environment are crucial factors to consider when installing these objects, so that they may function as props to a complete aesthetic experience.
Devised as a sequence of ’frames’, p. 18 is an installation that will be composed as a painting containing references to modernism and minimalism.
Flore Nove-Josserand was born in France and graduated from the Slade School of Fine Art, London, in 2007. In 2006 she received the AHRC Postgraduate Award for Professional Preparation Masters Scheme. Recent group shows include: Après-Moderne, Projet Midi, Brussels (2008); Praxis, Enders, London (2008); Clouds, Hannah and Rhys Present…, Bristol (2008); Some Things Worth Knowing, Enders, London (2008); Brave Not Beige, Plan 9, Bristol (2008); Year 07, London (2007), Slade School of Fine Art MA/MFA Degree Show, Slade School of Fine Art, London (2007) and Air Guitar and Two Teaspoons, BISCHOFF/WEISS, London (2007).
